St. Lucia of Syracuse is the patron saint of eye diseases and writers. Also known as Lucy, Saint Lucia was a wealthy Christian. Her mother did not approve of her faith, so the two went to the tomb of Saint Agatha, where Lucia prayed and an illness of her mothers was cured. Her arranged fiance turned her over to the authorities.
